  • Capital gain changes on June 25, 2024 and transitional issues.
  • Expanded capital gain sheltering options: increased LCGE, the CEI deduction, and the new $10M exemption for sale to EOT/Workers Coop.
  • New AMT regime starting 2024.
  • Changes to post-mortem planning, including expansion of 164(6).
  • Changes to trust reporting rules.
  • New GAAR rules starting 2024.
  • (Retroactive) changes to the relevant tax factor (RTF), and a concept of “FABI”.
  • CRA’s new power for Non-Compliance with Information Requests.
  • A reminder of Mandatory Disclosure Rules now in place.
  • A quick drive by of the changes to CRA’s administrative policy on safe income computation from CRA’s 2023 CTF paper on Safe Income.

Matt McCombe, CPA, CA is a Canadian Tax Manager at Moodys Private Client. With almost 10 years of experience, Matt strives to provide expert tax advice to high net-worth families, private businesses and multi-national enterprises. 

Graduating from Mount Royal University in 2013, Matt immediately starting articling for his CPA designation at a local Calgary accounting firm. In January 2017, Matt received his letters and joined the internal tax group at the same firm where his focus was on complex personal and corporate tax matters, as well as trust and estate planning. In November 2020, Matt completed CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program. In September 2021, Matthew joined Moodys Private Client where he continues to grow his tax knowledge base. 

 

 

Evan Crocker, CPA, CA is a Canadian Senior Tax Associate at Moodys Private Client Law. Evan has focused on tax since the beginning of his accounting career, where he started out providing compliance services for owner-managed businesses and the related personal and trust compliance. He now provides tax strategies in an M&A context, corporate reorganization, succession and estate planning, and income tax planning services. He works with every client to ensure their goals are met and the implementation is seamlessly completed. In February 2016, Evan received CPA designation and in August 2019 completed CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program, which he now facilitates to assist the education of future tax practitioners.
