The 2023 Tax Year in Review will provide you with an overview of the pertinent legislative & administrative changes and court cases of interest from 2023.  Kenneth and Matt will also provide some insight and suggestions regarding tax planning and traps.

Kenneth Keung, CA, CPA (CO, USA), CFP, TEP, LLB, MTAX

Kenneth Keung, CA, CPA (CO, USA), CFP, TEP, LLB, MTAX is a Director of Canadian Tax Advisory at Moody’s Tax Law / Moody’s Private Client. Kenneth has been providing his expertise in tax planning to high net-worth families, private businesses and multi-national enterprises for almost 20 years. His wide-ranging practice includes individual, trust and corporate tax planning, cross-border investments, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, and estate and succession planning.

Kenneth is a frequent tax blogger and also an award-winning author of a number of published papers. Kenneth has assisted The Joint Committee on Taxation of The Canadian Bar Association and Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada in working with Finance Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency on the development and enforcement of several tax legislation. Kenneth has also facilitated and developed teaching material for CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program since 2009, and is Chair of the Calgary branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioner (STEP). Kenneth is also part of the Tax Technical Committee of STEP Canada, as well as a member of the Board of Director of STEP Canada. Kenneth previously sat on the Program Committees for the Canadian Tax Foundation national and regional conferences, the award committee for the Young Practitioner writing award of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Technical Knowledge Development committee for the Financial Planning Standards Council, the Steering Committee of the Canadian Tax Foundation Young Practitioners and the Ernst & Young Power & Utilities Industry Committee.

 

Matt McCombe, CPA

Matt McCombe, CPA is a Canadian Tax Manager at Moodys Private Client. With almost 10 years of experience, Matt strives to provide expert tax advice to high net-worth families, private businesses and multi-national enterprises.

Graduating from Mount Royal University in 2013, Matt immediately starting articling for his CPA designation at a local Calgary accounting firm. In January 2017, Matt received his letters and joined the internal tax group at the same firm where his focus was on complex personal and corporate tax matters, as well as trust and estate planning. In November 2020, Matt completed CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program. In September 2021, Matthew joined Moodys Private Client where he continues to grow his tax knowledge base.

 

Evan Crocker, CPA

Evan Crocker, CPA is a Canadian Senior Tax Associate at Moodys Private Client Law. Evan has focused on tax since the beginning of his accounting career, where he started out providing compliance services for owner-managed businesses and the related personal and trust compliance. He now provides tax strategies in an M&A context, corporate reorganization, succession and estate planning, and income tax planning services. He works with every client to ensure their goals are met and the implementation is seamlessly completed. In February 2016, Evan received CPA designation and in August 2019 completed CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program, which he now facilitates to assist the education of future tax practitioners.
